I am an aspiring writer, with my first novel, Electric, due out this fall.
I am self publishing my book.
This blog is my journey through developing a writer’s platform via social media, Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, watt pad and others.
Pseudonym: Pseu-do-nym: /soodn-im noun, A fictitious name, esp. one used by an author.
There are many reasons why authors choose to use a pseudonym.
I choose a pseudonym because I have four adult children and I want to keep things separate.
The novel that I plan to publish in late fall has a lot of adult content.
I do not wish to bring any embarrassment to my children via my writing or content.
My novel is a book of fiction. When writing fiction you should write what you know, drawing from your own life experience to give your book an authentic feel. That doesn’t mean that you have to write an autobiography, it means pulling on the emotions that you have experienced in your life and giving that full meaning to your character.
Writers run the risk of being confused with their work and I’m just trying to avoid some confusion.
In my novel Electric, I did draw upon my experiences of being a mother with four children, but then I added a stalker, an affair, a murder along with a host of other societal ills that I wanted to contend with, there is a theme throughout my novel, of displacement, people are trying to be something they are not or hiding who they are as the story blossoms.
If you are interested in writing under a pseudonym, Google the name first to make sure that it is available and then create your Facebook, and blog before some else nabs it.
